This week in the eighth edition of our Exotic Car Of The Week series we take a look at Ferrari's mid-engined V8 (practically race-ready) 488 Pista Coupé. The 488 Pista is the Speciale version of the 488 GTB which has now been discontinued and replaced by the brand new Ferrari F8 Tributo. At the time of writing all versions of the 488 Pista coupé have been sold - leaving only the 488 Pista Spider available to purchase for new customers. Design and Styling
If you love an adrenaline stimulating driving experience, the Ferrari 488 Pista Coupé is the perfect supercar for you. As the name indicates, the Ferrari 488 Pista is made to rule the “track” with its unparalleled design and performance specs. If we speak technically, it will be fair to say that this model encompasses everything its predecessors had to offer - with about 100HP more. At a glance, the front end reveals a completely redesigned look as it features the S-Duct for the first time in a road car made by the famous Italian manufacturer. A central power wing profile is also dominant in the front intake to assist the splitter in better accelerations. The curvature complements the performance enhancement of the front intake as the air rushed through the S-Duct. Another major change is the elimination of metal sills as the side sills are replaced with carbon fiber - making the vehicle lighter, quicker, and more powerful than the regular 488 GTB by a long shot.
Interior Highlights
The aluminum tread plated and hand-stitched upholstery exudes a new kind of elegance inside the car. The 488 Pista also has a triangular pattern on the heel rests so as to avoid slips which add a new style element to the interior. Moreover, the 488 Pista has an updated Side-Slip Angle control system which further comprises the F1-Track, the E-Diff, and the magnetorheological suspension system. The new SSC offers the Ferrari Dynamic Enhances for the first time.
Engine and Performance
As far as the engine and performance are concerned, the Ferrari 488 Pista is bestridden with a 3.9-liter Twin-Turbocharged mid-engined V8. The rear-wheel-drive and 7-speed automatic transmission assists in effortless driving no matter the conditions. The 488 Pista contains over 50% new components than the previous 458 Speciale which had bhp of 597 - allowing it to virtually bypass all the supercars in the 600+ horsepower range. With a bhp of 710, the 488 Pista is comparable with the McLaren 720s in peak power and torque. Crazy.
